Frank Warren has given an indication of the type of opponent Tyson Fury will face in his Anthony Joshua warmup fight.
The one the boxing world have craved for a decade is finally signed.
Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is signed for late 2026, but in true boxing fashion, there are some obstacles still left to hurdle before we see the biggest fight in British boxing history.
Fury made his return to the ring in April after a 15 month hiatus, defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov via a unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Immediately after his victory, AJ was on his mind and we saw the two exchange words.
Joshua himself has had a turbulent couple of years.
After a crushing defeat to two time world champion Daniel Dubois, Joshua had a number of injuries to see to.
He returned over a year later in a fantasy fight against global star Jake Paul, breaking the American’s jaw in two places.
The man from Watford was back on the top of the sport commercially, but just weeks later, he was involved in a tragic car crash.
He is still recovering mentally no doubt, but physically, AJ is back in training camp with team Usyk in Spain, ahead of a warmup fight against Kristian Prenga July 25th in Riyadh.
Fury has decided he himself wants to take another warmup.
Speaking to IFL TV, Frank Warren has revealed:
“It won’t be Andy Ruiz”.
“He wants a good fighter like he had last time, a recognisable opponent in the opposite corner”.
“Obviously he wants to come through that, keep busy so he can fight AJ, that’s where we’re at”.
Fury declared his desire to fight three times in 2026, and it seems his wish will be granted, culminating in the biggest showdown British boxing has ever seen.
