Warren reveals ideal Itauma opponent for the future.
Moses Itauma will be facing Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF heavyweight title in a few weeks’ time, with boxing fans interested to see if the 21-year-old Englishman can get the job done.
Whether he or Hrgovic win, though, Queensberry Promotions will gain another heavyweight champion, meaning three of the four titlists will be under Queensberry, and an unisputed bout between two of the promotion’s fighters is very likely.
Talking to Boxing News and other outlets about when this could happen Queensberry boss Frank Warren stated, “I think it’ll happen within the next 18 months [or] two years. Obviously, we’ve got to get the sanctioning bodies together to agree to a unification program. That means mandatories being pushed back and so forth.
“So, there’s a lot to be done, but one thing no-one can accuse us of is not getting these fights done. We’re making this division move.
“Our ultimate goal is to see who’s the best out of this bunch of fighters, to see who’s going to hold all four belts.”
Upon being queried as to whether or not an undisputed fight taking place between Itauma and Daniel Dubois would be the ideal scenario, Warren replied, “At this moment, yeah, I’d say so, unless the winner of [Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua] is going to carry on and be involved, and I believe the winner will be Tyson.
“But what a great fight that [would be between] Moses Itauma [and] Daniel Dubois down the road. Two massive punchers. That’s a stadium filler all day long.”
If plans indeed do eventuate in this manner, boxing fans can hope to witness an extremely exciting all-British spectacle, one that we won’t have seen the likes of for a while.
