Frank Warren responds to Ryan Garcia challenge

Warren responds to Garcia challenge.

Boxers with some of the most loyal followings are those who manage to include the football fanbase within their legion of fans.

With Josh Warrington, it’s Leeds United. With Nathan Heaney, it’s Stoke City. With the late, great Ricky Hatton, it was Manchester City.

Ryan Garcia is not such a boxer, but as the FIFA World Cup has progressed, he has expressed his support for Mexico, the country of his heritage.

This has especially become the case after Mexico beat Ecuador the other day, with the American being very open online about his confidence in the team.

Mexico’s next match happens to be against England, which has fuelled interactions between Garcia and a pair of British boxing figures on Twitter.

Garcia has been engaging in an online war of words with Conor Benn, with the two clashing ahead of a potential fight that has been rumoured for September.

This built up to a video message from Benn earlier today, with the Englishman stating in Spanish that Garcia isn’t Mexican and that he should “stop lying to the people”.

But apart from Benn, Garcia has also conversed with Queensberry Promotions boss Frank Warren, with the American having issued Warren a bet regarding the upcoming England vs. Mexico match yesterday.

Earlier today, Warren replied, accepting the offer. Garcia would respond a few hours later, offering to do a live-stream of them watching the game together and ending his Tweet saying that they’ll “talk soon”.

Warren then stated that if Mexico win, he will make a donation to a charity of Garcia’s choice, with the American responding that he will do the same if England “somehow pulls it off”.
