Undefeated Irishman to make second professional appearance.
On the 25th of April, Britain’s former WBO cruiserweight and WBC bridgerweight champion Lawrence Okolie will make his fourth appearance at heavyweight when he takes on France’s former Olympic gold medallist Tony Yoka.
“The Sauce” will be venturing into enemy territory, as the bout will be taking place at the Adidas Arena in Paris. Okolie will also be putting his WBC #1 ranking on the line.
In their last fights, Okolie and Yoka both appeared on the same card in Nigeria, when Yoka took out Patrick Korte and Okolie dispatched of Ebenezer Tetteh, respectively.
While the two big men will trade leather in the main event, there is plenty of action to go at on the undercard, which was announced in its entirety earlier today.
While fights such as Bakary Samake vs. Ermal Hadribeaj are interesting in their own right, the most exciting addition in the eyes of many will be that of an up-and-coming Irish heavyweight.
Adam Olaniyan was an accomplished amateur, and the 20-year-old made his professional debut just this March, blasting out Jan Bezouska in the first round.
That fight was on the undercard of the WBA super-featherweight title fight between Jazza Dickens vs. Anthony Cacace, and truth be told, it didn’t tell us a whole lot about the young Irishman.
Indeed, Bezouska was a 44-year-old Czech opponent with a 2-2 record, both of those wins having come over the same fighter, who possessed 6 wins and over 60 losses.
Either way, Olaniyan has been tipped for big things, with many expecting him to become the first Irish heavyweight world champion in history (or the second, should you consider Peter Maher).
The journey of the young up-and-comer should be an interesting one, and you can watch it progress from an early stage by tuning in to the Okolie-Yoka undercard on DAZN.
