Pauli Malignalli gives damming verdict on Conor Benn after points victory over the now retired Regis Prograis.
Conor Benn moved to 25-1 (14) last Saturday with a win over Regis Prograis (30-4, 24ko’s).
The scorecards read 98-92 x3, but despite it being wide on the cards, the performance has not been short of criticism.
It was the first major step in a journey back down to his self-proclaimed championship weight of 147lbs.
This was at a catchweight of 150lbs.
Many have suggested Benn looked unhealthy as of weigh in day, and even weak on the night.
Nicknamed as ‘The Destroyer’, Benn has insisted that he made the weight well, and even revealed live on the public weigh in broadcast that he had rehydrated to 165lbs.
Following on, the aftermath of Benn’s points victory has got the boxing public really debating what level the 29 year old is at.
It now seems all roads are leading to Conor Benn challenging Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s) for the WBC welterweight world championship.
Despite not fighting at 147lbs for close to four years, Benn is Garcia’s mandatory.
Reports are suggesting that the fight is being targeted for August 15th.
Former super-lightweight world champion Paulie Malignaggi has given a damming verdict on Conor Benn’s world title endeavours.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Malignaggi stated: “I don’t mind watching Conor Benn”.
“He’s an ok fighter, don’t start mentioning him at world class level”.
“That’s where I draw the line, I’m being a very honest person here”.
“He talks about all these world class fighters like Shakur Stevenson, his name belongs no where near these names”.
“Shakur Stevenson would beat him with one hand, I would beat him”.
“Conor Benn has never been a world champion, he looked like absolute dog food in the fight”.
Speaking about the proposed Ryan Garcia matchup, Malignaggi stated:
“He’s not terrible, Ryan beats him maybe even stops him”.
Paulie Malignaggi makes his return to the bare knuckle boxing scene next month in Manchester.
