Former Ennis opponent to make ring return in France.
When Uisma Lima fought Jaron Ennis in October, he wasn’t expected to win. In fact, he wasn’t really expected to even trouble Ennis.
However, after a decision loss to the well-rated Aaron McKenna, Lima won the IBO super-welterweight title and went undefeated in four fights against opponents with a combined record of 66-1.
So, there were those who thought that Lima could at least provide Ennis with a bit of resistance.
He didn’t.
In one round of action, Ennis had vanquished his Angolan foe, earning a win in just about the easiest way possible. After a mere 1 minute and 58 seconds, Lima was stomped by “Boots”.
Given that the world was wanting Ennis to have a showdown with Vergil Ortiz Jr. (and still is), the Philadelphian did everything he needed to do and–in the eyes of some, at least–a little bit more than he was expected to do.
Nonetheless, Ennis showed that there are levels in boxing, which is something we’ve seen time and time again. Across the run of opponents with the combined 66-1 record Lima had faced, he had fought nobody like Ennis.
And that’s not because Ennis was 34-0 to Sukhdeep Singh Bhatti’s 19-0 or Shervantaigh Koopman’s 15-0, because Ennis is more than his record. A former unified welterweight world champion, Ennis represents boxing’s top class.
Since the crushing Ennis defeat, Lima has travelled to Spain to beat Mexico’s 18-13 Luis Enrique Montelongo Morales, and it has now been announced that he will yet again be fighting in Europe.
This time, Lima (15-2, 10 KOs) will be journeying to France to take on home fighter Souleimane Mohameddi (16-0-1, 2 KOs) for the vacant WBC international super-welterweight title.
While not much of substance exists on Mohameddi’s résumé, he does own a win over fellow Frenchman Sofiane Khati, who has fought some good fighters across the middleweight division.
Lima-Mohameddi will be taking place on the 25th of April at the Pasino Grand Aix in Aix-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.
