Tyson Fury may be set to fight former professional football star.
Ahead of his expected blockbuster bout against Anthony Joshua, it is thought that Tyson Fury will be taking a tune-up fight in the interim.
“The Gypsy King” returned to action this April against Arslanbek Makhmudov, which came after more than a year’s absence from the ring.
On that night, Fury posted a dominant unanimous decision and promptly called out long-term rival and countryman Joshua, who was sitting ringside.
A Fury vs. Joshua fight has been a long time in the making, and it looks like we are closer now than ever before to it finally being made official.
It was announced last month that Joshua would be taking a warm-up affair against little-known Albanian puncher Kristian Prenga in July, and it was soon reported that Fury would also be making another ring appearance before he’d meet his fellow Englishman.
We now appear to know when that will be and who it will be against, if a social media post made earlier today is to be believed.
On his Instagram, Swedish former professional footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović posted a series of photographs featuring him posing alongside Fury, saying “IT’S ON” for the 1st of August in Dublin, Ireland.
The 44-year-old Ibrahimović did score over 570 goals in his professional football career and happens to be a black belt in taekwondo. However, a fight with Fury would prove to be a massive surprise, given the Swede’s lack of boxing experience.
It should be noted that Queensberry Promotions already has a show scheduled for the 1st of August in Dublin, that being the IBO super-lightweight title fight between Mark Chamberlain and Pierce O’Leary.
This would seemingly clash with the reported bout, so it remains to be seen how that situation will unfold.
Whether the news of Fury vs. Ibrahimović is to be taken at face value is currently unclear, and we will likely have to wait for an official announcement on the matter to find out for certain. But if true, it will no doubt prove to be a very bizarre spectacle indeed.
