Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao rematch postponed indefinitely

Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 postponed.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao were undoubtedly the best and second-best fighters of their era, and that is something that not a lot of boxing fans would argue with.

Indeed, the pair of superstars transcended the usual circle of pugilism entirely. More than just boxers, they broke into the mainstream as a whole.

Of course, they are both legends of the sport, but they had profiles that wholly eclipsed the typical boxing audience. They are the kind of people anyone on the street will know.

That type of fame as a boxer isn’t just rare. It’s once in a generation, and those kind of fighters are remembered forever. It truly is a very special thing.

And so, when the two squared off in 2015, it became the highest-grossing boxing match of all time, a record that remains and will very likely continue to.

While the fight itself wasn’t action-packed, just seeing both men in the same ring was marvelous, like something dreamt about that seemed destined to never become a reality.

But it did, and over 11 years after their encounter, they were all set to run it back. However, while their contest was meant to take place later this year, that will no longer be the case.

Pacquiao’s team has stated that “a volatile mix of federal lawsuits, scheduling overbooks, and financial gridlocks completely surrounding the Mayweather camp” has caused the rematch to be postponed indefinitely.

Last week, Mayweather was hit with a lawsuit by CSI Sports Events, who were involved with the second Pacquiao fight and his planned exhibition with Mike Tyson.

The lawsuit regarded a breaching of their contract regarding another exhibition Mayweather was set to have with Greek fighter Mike Zambidis, a contest that was cancelled this week.

As a result of this, the American has gone from having three scheduled fights this year to potentially having none.

The statement from Pacquiao’s team says that the earliest the Mayweather rematch can now take place is early 2027.
