Floyd Mayweather set alarming deadline by team Manny Pacquiao for rematch

Floyd Mayweather has been set an imminent deadline to provide written confirmation for a professional rematch against Manny Pacquiao

The rematch between Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27ko’s) and Manny Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39ko’s) was officially announced by Netflix in February.

In 2015, Mayweather defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision in an event that still holds the record for the most PPV buys in the history of boxing, 4.6 million.

‘Money’ Mayweather ended an illustrious career in professional boxing at the very top in 2017, stopping Conor McGregor.

Despite returning to the ring on a number of occasions since, Mayweather has not put his prestigious unbeaten record on the line, only returning in exhibition bouts.

However, this all seemed like it was about to change.

Netflix have billed the rematch as a professional bout.

It is for scheduled September 19 at the Sphere.

But, last weekend, Mayweather declared to Vegas Sport:

“It’s not actually a fight, it’s an exhibition. We’re going to do it again and hopefully entertain the people.”

A large portion of the traction this fight generated was due to the fact it was billed as a professional fight, and the jeopardy that brings.

Pacquiao challenged for the WBC welterweight world championship last July against Mario Barrios (29-3-2, 18ko’s).

The outcome was a majority draw, with Pacquiao narrowly missing out on making history.

His full focus has shifted to getting revenge on his former foe, and his team have responded to Mayweather’s recent claims regarding fight details.

Jas Mathur, CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions stated via Instagram:

“Men lie, women lie, executed binding agreements don’t”.

Mathur has recently spoke to Boxing Scene, in which he has stated:

“Everything from the beginning has been for a real fight. He’s in breach right now”.

“He has to provide written confirmation by tomorrow that he has intent to cure it, and there’s a certain amount of time, there’s multiple breaches across the board”.

“This fight is not canceled. Floyd Mayweather is in breach of his contract. There’s been no request by anybody to cancel it”.

“Manny is not happy, he’s been looking for this rematch. Nobody ever got a contract, and Netflix stepping up as a media empire holds a lot of weight”.

If the fight is to fall through, could the man from the Philippines turn his attention back to the welterweight scene.
