Mayweather being sued ahead of Mike Zambidis fight.
The legal woes of Floyd Mayweather Jr. only continue. Just a few days ago, he was presented with a pair of felony charges related to a check he wrote at the end of 2024 for a luxury watch that he allegedly didn’t have the necessary money for.
That was in addition to the various monetary disputes he has faced in recent times and throughout the years, and now the American has another one to add to the list.
Mayweather is currently scheduled to fight kickboxer and MMA fighter Mike Zambidis. The contest is set to take place next week in Athens, the capital of Zambidis’s home country of Greece.
Later this year, though, the former five-division world champion has another exhibition scheduled against Mike Tyson and a professional rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
The company contracted for those fights is CSI Sports Events, and they are now suing Mayweather for an alleged breach of contract.
CSI claim that they paid a $4.5 million advance for the exclusive rights to promote his bouts with Tyson and Pacquiao. In their lawsuit, they state that a day after paying Mayweather a second advance of $150,000, he announced his exhibition with Zambidis.
Allegedly, this violates the contract CSI had with Mayweather, and the company also states that the terms of their agreement have it that Mayweather can’t have another fight before the Tyson exhibition.
As a result, CSI is seeking an injunction to prevent Mayweather’s fight with Zambidis from happening and to be repaid $4,650,000 in advances.
Mayweather is known for having been the highest-earning pay-per-view star in all of boxing, but his numerous money problems outside of the ring make those days seem so long ago.
Floyd Mayweather was sued Thursday as promoter CSI seeks repayment of $4.65 million in advances paid to the boxer for a two-fight deal to face Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao, according to a complaint obtained by The Ring’s @MikeCoppinger.
