Matchup for Davis’s old world title is made official.
Gervonta Davis was once considered to be a placement in the top ten of boxing’s pound-for-pound list. An explosive, exciting puncher, the man known as “Tank” was often cited as one of the fighters in the sport who practically guaranteed action every time he stepped into the ring.
Though he could lose rounds and be outboxed for a time, Davis would always find a way to get the victory. With only two decision victories in 30 wins, that was almost always by knockout.
But in a defence of his WBA lightweight title against former WBA super-featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. in March of 2025, a knockout did not come. In fact, despite it officially being scored a draw, many believe Davis should have walked away with the first loss of his career.
And had a controversial no-knockdown call actually been ruled a knockdown, that is exactly what the scorecards would have dictated.
That is the last time “Tank” entered the ring. Though a bizarre exhibition against social media personality Jake Paul was meant to take place last November, that would ultimately fall through after some outside-the-ring issues on Davis’s side.
Davis is now no longer the WBA lightweight champion, and that trinket will now be on the line for a fight between two separate fighters.
It will be fought for between Floyd Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) and Lucas Bahdi (20-0, 15 KOs), a battle of the undefeated between the United States and Canada.
Serving as the co-main event to that bout will be a fight between WBC and WBA flyweight champion Ricardo Sandoval (27-2, 18 KOs) and former unified strawweight champion Oscar Collazo (15-0, 12 KOs), who will be moving up two divisions for this bout.
It will all be taking place on the 10th of October at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
