Tyson Fury identified Fabio Wardley, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk as potential opponents to fight next.
Fabio Wardley is the current WBO world heavyweight champion.
Oleksandr Usyk, the man who held the titles before, vacated the title after being ordered to face him by the WBO.
Prior to that, Wardley was the interim champion, having beaten Joseph Parker to win that title, and this decision elevated him to full championship status.
The WBO referred to Usyk’s decision to relinquish the title as a “respectful pause” rather than a farewell, but it ultimately handed made Fabio Wardley the official WBO world heavyweight champion.
Since taking on that mantle, many have wondered who Wardley would challenge next.
The Ipswich born boxer is undefeated in the sport, with 20 wins and 1 split decision draw against Frazer Clarke – a result he turned into a W in their next bout.
And it seems that Wardley is a wanted man.
Tyson Fury, coming out of retirement, shared a graphic on social media that identified Fabio Wardley, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk as three potential opponents he’s eyeing up to fight next.
With Fury throwing his name back into the fight game and also seemingly calling out Wardley, many wondered what the British heavyweight thinks of that possibility.
It seems that the WBO heavyweight champion is more than keen to make that bout happen.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fabio Wardley has stated that he would be “extremely keen” to defend his world title against Tyson Fury.
“It was good [to be named on Tyson Fury’s hit list] because he was already on mine. It makes no difference to me,” Wardley said.
“Look, it’s something I’d be really keen for because I’m not shying away from big fights. I haven’t got a world title just to take easy fights and hold onto it, and hide away with it.
“I’m not going to run off with my belt and not offer it out to anyone. The biggest names out there are the guys I want to be in fights with.
“I think being open [to negotiations] might be a bit of an understatement. I’d be extremely keen to see if he’s genuine about it or not.
“He may be looking at it like it might be an easy touch for him to roll out of retirement, come into a fight, pick up a world title and go on to bigger things, but as fighters of late have found out, I’m quite the banana skin.
“I’d back myself against anyone in this division. That much has been proven about me.
“No matter the fighter, the occasion, the night, the event, or even how the fight in itself is going, I’m always in there with a chance. I’m not going to give up until I hear that final bell.”
It didn’t take long for The Gypsy King to respond to the comments from Fabio Wardley.
Fury took to his Instagram page and responding by saying, “Let’s see how I look and get on in my return.”
So it looks like the chance of the two facing off are seemingly quite high.
There isn’t any update on the situation in regards to Anthony Joshua returning to the ring after the horrific car crash that he was involved in and Wardley vs Fury still gives boxing fans a mouthwatering British heavyweight bout.
Fight fans will be keeping an eye on things to see how the story evolves over the coming days and weeks.
