Exclusive: Shane Fury’s sons hope to continue the Fury era and fight professionally

Shane Fury’s sons are hoping to extend the Fury era and fight professionally, after having a taste of the life of a fighter in the amateur ranks.

The comeback of Tyson Fury means that he, Hughie, Tommy and Roman Fury remain as the active boxers in possession of one of Britain’s most iconic fighting names. However, the era of the Fury’s could continue into the next generation.

Shane Fury, another brother of Tyson’s, is one of few Fury’s to have not tried their hand in the professional circuit, but his interest in the sport and support for his brothers has always been obvious.

However, after being considered as the brother that stays out of the spotlight, Shane Fury’s involvement in boxing may be set to increase, due to the ambitions of his sons.

Speaking exclusively with Boxing King Media, the younger brother of the two-time heavyweight ruler revealed the progress of his sons, who fight as amateurs out of Jimmy Egan’s Boxing Academy in Wythenshawe, Manchester.

“I have got a tall lad, he’s only 13, 64 kg and he is sparring 16/17-year-olds and doing well with them. He’s doing well.

“And I’ve got a little one, as well. He is strong, he has got a good record on him and that but they are no better than any of the other good kids, so we’ll just keep on learning, win, lose or draw.”

“They are good, and they are coming on. The best thing about them is that they’ll listen.

“They are good triers, they will stick with it and they won’t stop until you say stop”

Beaming with pride, Fury then went on to admit that the asset he is most impressed by is the mentality of his boys but added that he would have no issue with his sons pursuing other careers.

“They are triers, so I can’t ask for no more. Whether they are gonna make it as boxers or not, is two different things.

“That is not the aim for me anyway, if they are good enough then the door is open for them to do something but if they’re not good enough we can get on about a job and do what we need to do.”

“Being able to box is one thing, but that [mentality] of sticking with it and wanting to learn – that is another thing that you need. That is what they have got. We’ll see if they have got the ability.”

It remains to be seen how far the nephews of ‘The Gypsy King’ can go, but blessed with fighting genetics and a champion’s attitude, they have every chance to succeed.
