Exclusive: Representatives of Jai Opetaia hit back at Paulie Malignaggi

Jai Opetaia’s management and co-promoters Tasman Fighters hit back at comments made by Pauli Malignalli.

Representatives of Jai Opetaia’s management and co-promotional team Tasman fighters have hit back at the comments made by  Paulie Malignaggi.

Jai Opetaia (29-0, 23ko’s) has signed a co-promotional deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.

Jai Opetaia is the figurehead of Australian boxing at this time, the IBF and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight has aims of becoming undisputed champion before moving up to heavyweight.

Opetaia was previously promoted by Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, but that relationship come to an end a number of fights ago.

Opetaia has paired up with Dana White, a strategic agreement for the Australian to enter a more financially lucrative American market, as well as unifying the division.

The promotional agreement was greeted by unexpected confusion by the wider boxing world, as it can be argued Dana White and Jai Opetaia’s vision’s and goals within the sport are not aligned.

White and Zuffa Boxing plan to disregard the four recognised governing bodies, the WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF, as they intend to create their own league crowned by the Zuffa Belt.

Jai Opetaia and Tasman Fighters have reiterated their desire to chase unifications and undisputed, and despite the clashes in strategy, it is believed Zuffa will facilitate Opetaia to chase undisputed.

Paulie Malignalli shared his thoughts on Opetaia’s new promotional deal stating “Once I found out what I found out, I thought, of course they signed him, he was an easy one to pick up”.

Boxing King Media can exclusively reveal that representatives of Tasman fighters have responded to Malignalli’s comments stating:

“Pauli has been brainwashed and lied to by rival promoters in Australia to spread a negative narrative.

“Jai owned multi million dollar houses, a yacht amongst many luxuries.

“Jai’s lifestyle would not be possible on 150k pay days”.
