Exclusive: Kell Brook names condition for Chris Eubank Jr. fight

Former champion lays out terms for all-British dust-up.

Kell Brook was the IBF welterweight champion of the world over ten years ago.

That win, against Shawn Porter in California, remains one of the best away wins by a British fighter in boxing history.

From there, Brook is remembered for an extremely gutsy two-weight leap up to middleweight to challenge divisional monster Gennady Golovkin.

It was that fight that unfortunately marked the start of his decline. Stopped on a broken orbital bone in the 5th round, Brook was too brave for his own good.

Apart from that, his brave showings against Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. are what fans remember him for, as well as his bow-out against longtime rival Amir Khan almost four years ago.

But now Brook will be returning on the 11th of April to take on Eisa Al Dah in Dubai.

Brook’s Emirati opponent was due to face Ricky Hatton in December, but following the British legend’s tragic passing in September, Brook took his place, and now the event will be dedicated to honouring the memory of ‘The Hitman’.

The undercard is set to feature the return of Hatton’s son Campbell, as well as the big-stage debuts of Jack and Lola, Hatton’s niece and nephew.

Kell Brook himself fought Matthew Hatton–Ricky’s younger brother–as a professional, but is now being linked to a different fight after his April comeback.

In an interview with Boxing King Media, Kell Brook revealed his interest in a fight with Chris Eubank Jr. and named the condition on which he would take the fight.

“We could probably come between middle and super-middle[weight]. We can agree, you know? All we’ve gotta do is phone up, get that conversation rockin’ and rollin’, agree on terms and everythin’ else, and we’ve got a fight 100%”, said Brook.

Chris Eubank Jr.’s father, Chris Eubank Sr., was known to not get along with Brendan Ingle, whose son Dominic trained Kell Brook throughout most of his career. Dominic Ingle labelled both Eubank Jr. and his father “ignorant” in 2016 for comments made following Brook’s loss to Golovkin and his decision to throw in the towel.

Chris Eubank Jr. is coming off a rematch defeat to Conor Benn, and he will be looking for a lucrative fight back. Whether that will be Kell Brook or not, the Sheffield man is definitely up for it.
