John Fury speaks ahead of son Tommy’s fight tomorrow night.
John Fury is known as the very outspoken father of Tyson and Tommy Fury, and the latter son will be the centre of attention when he faces former professional strongman Eddie Hall tomorrow night.
That contest has drawn attention for the huge weight disadvantage Tommy will be facing (108.1 pounds), but ahead of that fight, John has taken part in an interview with Boxing King Media.
First, he touched upon how he is expected to meet with his son Tyson at the fight tomorrow. When asked if he was looking forward to that, John stated, “Yeah, I’m lookin’ forward. It’s been a long time, you know? And at the end of the day, you know, I’m just tryin’ to get things right with me son what should never have took place in the beginnin’.”
What John refers to is a recent fallout that the two had, with him stating that his relationship with Tyson was “destroyed”. With luck, maybe they could patch things up tomorrow.
Speaking on a long-rumoured bout with Carl Froch and on concerns of him fighting in his 60s, John stated, “He’s a middleweight, whatever he was. He was great in his day, but he’s 50 year[s] old himself, you know? And at the end of the day, pay the money. And if you wanna see him knock me out, pay the money.”
Continuing, he said, “And listen, none of my sons can say to me, ‘Don’t fight.’ Like I can’t tell them what to do, they can’t tell me what to do. If they wanna say, ‘There’s the money’, I’m in like Donkey Kong.
“I don’t value him [Froch]. I don’t value [him] and his plastic nose and his arrogant face on him. He’d be in a tear-up with John Fury, ’cause I can bring more than a left hook and a jab-right hand, believe me.
“He’ll have a rough time with me, [I’m] tellin’ you, ’cause I’m a big man and I can let him hit me. Him sayin’ he’d bounce off me with a jab? Get fu**in’ real. Get real.
“You know like Rico [Verhoeven] done to [Oleksandr] Usyk? Nobody expected that, did they? Well, expect what I can do to him, ’cause I can rough him up and I can guarantee it. And if I don’t, don’t pay me. If it’s a one-sided affair, keep the fu**in’ money; I’d be too ashamed to take it, I’m tellin’ you.”
John recently revealed that he asked for £2.5 million for the Froch fight, but didn’t receive a reply. Should the fight between the two happen, it would arguably be an even more bizarre encounter than the one set to take place tomorrow.
