Exclusive: Former world champion “shocked” and disappointed at Conor Benn

A former world champion has slammed the behaviour of Conor Benn in the aftermath of him leaving Eddie Hearn for ZUFFA boxing.

Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) rocked the boxing world on Friday night, but it wasn’t in the ring this time.

What seemed to be a quiet Friday night in the build up to an action packed weekend of boxing, turned out to be one of the most shocking evenings in recent boxing history.

Benn has left Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing to sign with rival promoter Dana White and ZUFFA.

ZUFFA, who are majority owned by SELA and Turki Al Sheikh, intend on replicating the UFC model in Mixed Martial Arts.

Therefore, they plan to disregard the four recognised governing bodies, the WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF.

As well as this, they will not co-operate with other promotions and will only operate internally or with the Ring Magazine.

With the financial backing they possess, no boxing fan is surprised that ZUFFA are making power moves, but Conor Benn was last on everyone’s list.

Benn and Matchroom Boxing have had a loyal relationship that has been tested through Benn’s chaotic career thus far.

Hearn publicly stood by Conor Benn during the aftermath of two failed drugs tests, and successfully exonerated Benn of any wrong doing.

Benn then went on to headline Tottenham Hotspur Stadium twice in 2025, with his star power reaching all time high.

This move has been regarded as one of the biggest acts of disloyalty in boxing history.

Former WBC world champion Junior Witter has exclusively revealed to Boxing King Media his thoughts.

Witter stated he was “shocked”.

“Witter” added: “It shows his character, money mad”.

“He’s gone to an organisation that are doing their own thing, he’s going to be a star over there, and not fight anyone decent”.

“All he’s done in his career is beat a weight drained jaded fighter”.

“He’s got plenty of money, he’s gone for the money”.

“If someone’s helped you when you’ve got nothing, and someone’s given you money to help. It’s terrible, he didn’t expect it from someone he’s had since day one and turned into a superstar”.

Junior Witter is releasing an exclusive biography that covers all bases of the former WBC super-lightweight champion.

Titled as ‘The Avoided’, the biography reveals how Junior went from a curious 10-year old, who only got involved with boxing because he could hit people and get away with it, to a great competitor who went on to complete the sport at every level as a professional.

You can pre-order this on Amazon, with a release date of the 10th March.
