The former coach of Daniel Dubois has slammed the preparations for the undisputed title fight with Oleksandr Usyk last July
Former coach and team member of Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois Kieran Farrell has explained why he left team Dubois and what went wrong in the build-up to the rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.
The fight was for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world.
Usyk knocked out the Greenwich born heavyweight in round 5 to become a three time undisputed champion, and further secure his legacy as an all time great.
Kieran Farrell joined the camp in the build-up for the Filip Hrgovic fight on the 5v5 card in Saudi Arabia.
Farrell played a key part in the Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua fights, two of Dubois’s biggest scalps, that ultimately led him to becoming IBF heavyweight world champion in that crowning night at Wembley Stadium.
Farrell left the camp shortly after the defeat to Usyk last July.
Shortly after this, Dubois left head coach Don Charles in a decision that sparked controversy.
However, in a remarkable U-turn, Dubois and Don Charles have re-united and will continue to work together as Dubois looks set to challenge Fabio Wardley for the WBO heavyweight championship.
For this camp, Farrell will not be a part of the team.
When asked on the matter, Boxing King Media can exclusively reveal Farrell’s thoughts on the Dubois situation.
Farrell stated: “I left with a bad taste in my mouth about boxing”.
“I can’t say too much for legal reasons, the Dubois I trained can beat Wardley”.
“There’s a few things that didn’t sit right with me, and they need addressing”.
Farrell was asked on the build-up to the Usyk fight and what went wrong that night.
Farrell expressed: “The whole night was a f*ck up”.
“We wasn’t best prepared, we’re hearing there’s a kick off at the door”.
“You’ve got to give yourself every chance, it’s the biggest night of your life”.
“Something changed with him, he got gradually worse after the Parker fight week”.
Dubois pulled out of the Joseph Parker fight on fight week due to illness.
