Exclusive: Adam Azim “close to slapping” rival who called him “a coward”

Adam Azim responds to a personal callout from rival after his fight with Gustavo Lemos was officially postponed.

Adam Azim (14-0, 11ko’s) admits he was “close to slapping” a rival boxer who has been calling him out for a fight frequently in recent times.

Azim, who is signed to BOXXER, is one of the promoters flagship fighters.

The super lightweight contender was set to headline the Copper Box arena in East London last Saturday against Gustavo Lemos (30-2, 20ko’s), however the fight has been postponed to a rumoured April due to injuries to both fighters.

The British boxing public have been calling for Adam Azim and now WBC super lightweight champion Dalton Smith (19-0, 14ko’s) to collide for a number of years now, and with the two’s continuing rise to the summit of the sport, the clash seems inevitable.

With Azim being just 23 years old, he is only a number of fights from world title glory.

Azim was called out Prince Patel (34-1-2, 29ko’s) on Saturday, following the 33 year old’s stoppage victory in Thailand.

The former Commonwealth title holder has called Adam Azim a “coward” if he doesn’t fight him.

Patel has billed it as an India vs Pakistan matchup.

Boxing King Media can exclusively reveal Azim’s response to the callout.

Azim stated “He’s been calling me out for a while now, why would I fight a chubby flyweight, let’s not be silly”.

“He’s a complete clown, for me why would I fight a guy so low calibre, who hasn’t fought anyone, and goes to Africa to fight”.

“I’m not going to put myself down to his level”.

“There was a scenario in Slough, where I did an interview with him, I was that close to slapping him”.

“Not only was he disrespecting me, he was disrespecting Conor Benn, he was disrespecting Amir Khan, and I didn’t like that.

“He can keep calling my name out, but why would I fight a chubby little fighter like that”.

“I’m going to let my friend Abdul Khan (13-0, 4ko’s) smash the hell out of him”.

It is believed that Azim will revisit his scheduled fight with Lemos in April, where a number 2 ranking in the IBF is up for grabs.
