Emotional John Fury opens up on “destroyed” relationship with Tyson Fury

John Fury has revealed that his relationship with son Tyson Fury has been “destroyed” by boxing and worries for Fury ahead of April 11

Throughout the career of Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24ko’s), his father John Fury has been a prominent figure.

Most recently, at the launch press conference for Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov, John Fury went on a viral aggressive rant, calling out Carl Froch who was on the broadcast.

Publicly, John Fury has always expressed his pride for his son, who has gone on to have an illustrious career in the sport.

For some fights John has been in the corner, and for some he has not even been at the venue.

In the aftermath of Tyson Fury’s split decision defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, many believed that the man from Morecambe had too many voices in his corner.

The corner consisted of head trainer Sugar Hill Steward, Andy Lee, and John Fury.

For the rematch, John Fury was exiled from the team, much to his dislike.

John was not part of the camp in Malta, and did not make the journey to Riyadh for the fight.

In a recent interview with Playbook Boxing, John Fury emotionally described his relationship with his son.

John Fury stated: “My relationship with Tyson is destroyed”.

“Boxing destroyed it completely. I’ll say it on camera: I’ve never taken £10 off him in my life and I never will”.

“I don’t want Tyson’s money and I don’t need Tyson’s money”.

“Whatever he’s got, good luck to him. But don’t forget who built his story when he was a kid”.

“He didn’t build it himself, did he?”.

The Gypsy King will return to the ring after a 15 month hiatus in April, and is looking to become a three time heavyweight world champion.

When asked about his return, John Fury stated:

“I think he’s past his best, he hasn’t been for a while”.

“Tyson has been gone since the Deontay Wilder fights, they finished him”.

“Makhmudov is a problem for Tyson. I am the first one to say it”.

Seeing another famous father and son relationship fragment is never nice to see.

A father and son reunion sent the sporting world mad in 2025 when Chris Eubank Jr and Chris Eubank Sr stepped out at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium together.

We will see if a similar reunion can occur for John and Tyson Fury.
