Negotiations ongoing for all-British showdown.
Ekow ‘The Engine’ Essuman is the type of fighter that no boxing fan can hate. He is everything a boxing fan could possibly want rolled into one.
The come-forward, bombs-away brawler is never in a boring fight. For a while, he cut a swathe through the domestic welterweight scene, defending his British and Commonwealth titles against anyone who dared swim in his waters.
Eventually, someone would bring their armbands, and this person happened to be the only style of fighter that could completely neutralise Essuman’s relentless aggression.
‘Horrible’ Harry Scarff was a nightmarishly difficult technician, and he entirely stymied Essuman’s inexorable pressure in outboxing him over the distance to hand him his first loss.
In Essuman’s first fight back, he engaged in an outrageous war with Owen Cooper. After dropping Cooper in the 6th, Essuman was floored in the 9th, then stopped Cooper in the very next round.
His next fight was much of the same–minus the knockdowns–as he beat Ben Vaughan in a wild fight. Two months later, Harry Scarff would defend the British and Commonwealth titles he won from Essuman against Conah ‘The Wolf’ Walker.
Walker, too, would get severely outboxed by Scarff. In fact, he lost every second of every round going into the 11th. But unlike Essuman, he found a rabbit from somewhere deep inside his hat.
It took one right hand from Walker to stagger both Scarff and his momentum, and from there, Walker pounced. Shortly after, he had won.
Walker is perhaps the only man who could rival Essuman’s non-stop pressure. Having lost a very debatable decision to Lewis Crocker in 2024, he has been on a four-fight win streak that culminated in a last-round stoppage over undefeated former Olympian Pat McCormack in December.
Essuman’s recent run of form has included a win over Josh Taylor and a stoppage loss to Jack Catterall. So, while he was stopped in his last fight, he is less than a year removed from his career-best win.
And it is understood that there are ongoing negotiations for Conah Walker and Ekow Essuman to collide.
This bout is mooted for a Matchroom Boxing card in Wolverhampton, meaning Walker will have home advantage. And from what has been said, Essuman has already received an offer for the fight.
Two action heroes, two former British and Commonwealth champions, and a clash between Queensberry Promotions and Matchroom Boxing.
A fight between Conah Walker (17-3-1, 8 KOs) and Ekow Essuman (22-2, 8 KOs) would represent the meeting of the two purest all-action fighters in British boxing today.
