Edgar Berlanga targeting British opponent by the end of the year

Berlanga targeting big British name.

Edgar Berlanga is big-talking, big-punching, and big on himself, the type of boxer who his fans absolutely love and his detractors absolutely despise.

Whatever you think of him, he gets people talking. In the world of boxing, that is the one thing every fighter should be aiming for, as long as it isn’t mostly bad.

First turning heads for starting his career by winning his first 16 fights in the opening round, he has since gained further attention for his in-ring antics, press conference soundbites, and appearing in high-profile events.

In September of 2024, he garnered respect in a losing effort against Canelo Álvarez for the unified super-middleweight championship. Last year, however, he was shredded in five rounds by Hamzah Sheeraz, which earned him ridicule from many due to his pre-fight vocals.

A few months ago, he would sign with Zuffa Boxing, and he returned on Sunday after over a year out of the ring to stop either-you-knock-me-out-or-I’ll-knock-you-out fighter Steven Butler in an entertaining affair.

Following his debut under the promotion, Berlanga has revealed that he would like a fight with a popular British name by the end of the year.

“I’m looking forward to getting a real big fight with Chris Eubank [Jr.]”, Berlanga told The Ring. “I want that fight, and I told Dana [White], Nick Khan, Keith Connolly (my manager), ‘Let’s do it in London. It’s gonna be big. We gonna do some numbers over there.'”

Coming off his rematch defeat to Conor Benn, Eubank Jr. will be looking to get back into the sport in a big way, and a fight against Berlanga might just be the way he will be looking to do that.
