Devin Haney won his first world championship under Eddie Hearn and Matchroom’s stewardship.
Devin Haney (33-0, 15ko’s) was a major part of Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing’s entrance into the American market.
‘The Dream’ is a pound for pound star and now three weight world champion.
From San Francisco, Haney holds a valuable piece of the welterweight division, a division stacked with commercial giants.
Haney dropped Brian Norman Jr (28-1, 23ko’s) on his way to claiming the WBO welterweight title via unanimous decision.
Despite this, it has now been six months out of the ring for Haney, and no fight is scheduled.
His last two fights have been on cards facilitated by Turki Al-Sheikh and SELA.
Whether Haney’s style has impressed the Saudi’s is yet to be seen.
Eddie Hearn and Devin Haney have had an up and down relationship over recent years.
Hearn has labelled Haney “scarred” from a brutal 12 rounds with Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s).
Ultimately, the fight ended in a no contest due to Ryan Garcia failing a VADA Anti Doping test, but has it inflicted fear into Haney’s fighting style?
Speaking on working with Haney again, Hearn told IFL TV: “I can’t do anything with Devin”.
“The money’s not there, unless you need these guys and are willing to lose a lot of money in the process, you just can’t”.
“I love Devin, if a fight made sense, but he wants crazy money,
“So therefore you need someone who is desperate, to overpay the marketplace”.
“We’re in a position where we are number one, so we don’t need to overpay crazy numbers to bring talent”.
“If I signed Devin, I just don’t know what I’d do with him”.
“Devin has got to do what’s right for Devin”.
Eddie Hearn also hinted at Zuffa Boxing potentially making a play to sign Devin Haney.
