Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua share positive catch-up after the tragic events that occurred in Nigeria.

Matchroom Boxing chairman Eddie Hearn has caught up with fighter and close friend Anthony Joshua and shared details of the link up on social media.

This is believed to be the pairs first meeting since the tragic events that occurred in Lagos, Nigeria.

In late December 2025, Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car crash that saw two close friends and members of team AJ by the names of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele lose their lives.

Just a number of days before this tragedy, Anthony Joshua returned to the ring after a 14 month absence defeating Jake Paul via knockout in one of the most viewed boxing events of the calendar year, with a reported 33 million watching the bout.

Prior to this incident a monumental 2026 was in the pipeline for the global superstar.

Off the back of a knockout victory over Jake Paul, Anthony Joshua has become the icon in America that Eddie Hearn and his team have hoped he would be for a number of years.

With agreements in place with Riyadh Season, Eddie Hearn and His Excellency Turki Al-Sheikh had plans to stage the eagerly anticipated grudge match between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

A matchup that a generation of fight fans have been calling for.

With the relationships between the promoters at an all time high in terms of co-operation it seems that finalising a deal is more of a possibility than previous times.

However, the car crash has meant that there are questions being asked about that fight once again.

In fact, many have questioned whether Anthony Joshua would even return to the boxing ring.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has shared the latest update directly on his own social media pages.

“Great to catch up with @anthonyjoshua today,” Hearn wrote on X.

“His resilience and strength is inspiring. The loss is heavy and he will take his time to get back on track but said he is truly grateful for all the support and the love shown for Latz and Sina”.

Eddie Hearn seems to be indicating that a return to the boxing ring will happen for Anthony Joshua – shutting down any rumours of a potential retirement.

Alongside that, a message of thanks from Joshua to everyone who has supported and showed appreciation for his friends.

While fight fans are keen to see the British heavyweight return to the world, at this time it is imperative that AJ and everyone associated to the late Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele is supported and that the wider sporting world continue to share their thoughts and feelings with people affected by these tragic events.
