Eddie Hearn has revealed that Shabaz Masoud may make the move to featherweight this summer as his return to the ring draws closer.
Eddie Hearn is the lead promoter for ‘Glory in Giza’ this Saturday as Oleksandr Usyk takes on Rico Verhoeven outside the famous pyramids.
It’s been a brilliant start to 2026 for Matchroom, who have made up serious ground in the U.S.
Fights like Foster-Ford and Zayas-Ennis in their upcoming schedule highlight this.
However, in the chaotic world that is boxing, it has not been all plain sailing.
Due to no fault of their own, certain things have just not gone their way in the U.K recently.
Two of their standout main events in the UK have fallen through in recent times.
These were Dalton Smith vs Alberto Puello and Callum Smith vs David Morrell.
In a time where Queensberry Promotions are as competitive as ever, it is imperative Matchroom focus on this market.
A man that is set to return to the ring this summer is Shabaz Masoud.
Masoud is on a run of extremely impressive wins as of late.
The Staffordshire based fighter defeated the hotly tipped Peter McGrail last time out in Monaco.
Before that, ‘Maverick’ headlined a Queensberry event as the away fighter, outpointing Liam Davies in Birmingham.
Speaking to Boxing King Media, Eddie Hearn has given an update on the plans for Masoud.
Hearn stated: “Ready to make a big fight for him at 122 or 126”.
“The problem is at 122 is Naoya Inoue has all the belts”.
“We have had a couple of conversations about 126”.
“Sometimes its a little bit difficult with Ramadan, because of the scheduling”.
“He won in December, so really you want to get him out in March or April, and obviously it takes a bit longer”.
“He’ll be out this summer, and looking to land a big fight”.
