Eddie Hearn reveals Fury-Joshua might not take place in the U.K.
Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua is a fight everyone in the world (boxing fan or not) has been waiting for years to see. And even with both being out of their primes and no longer being world champions, their encounter would do incredible figures.
Fortunately, it has appeared for the past few months that we will be getting to see it take place this year, which is something that everyone in the sport should be excited about.
Of course, with both fighters being British, it is certainly a spectacle more likely to appeal to those in the United Kingdom. But with both men possessing international starpower, people from all over the world are bound to tune in.
All the same, given the sheer magnitude of the event we are discussing here, it was assumed that it would not be taking place anywhere outside of Britain. After all, it is likely the biggest all-British boxing match of all time.
That could still very well be the case. However, a surprising alternative has now been mentioned by Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter at Matchroom Boxing.
In an interview with The Stomping Ground, upon being asked about the potential venue for the fight, Hearn stated, “Look, that’s down to His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh]; he’s payin’ the bill. We’re bein’ told middle of November [is when it will take place]. You know, I think U.K. and U.S. are the two frontrunners for that. But you know, we’ll leave it to them and take care of business July 25th [when Joshua fights Kristian Prenga] and await the date and venue.”
Upon being asked if the bout landing in the U.S. would be disappointing to British fans, Hearn said, “Look, I think everybody would prefer the fight to take place in the U.K., but at the same time, it is November [one of the coldest months]. Gotta look at availability and see where His Excellency wants to hold it.”
Wherever it ends up being, Fury vs. Joshua simply must take place.
