Eddie Hearn reveals British former world champion could appear on 7v7 event

Hearn reveals potential fight on 7v7 card.

The first Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 event is considered to be one of the best boxing cards in recent memory. Stacked from top to bottom with terrific talent and competitive matchups, the idea was that five fighters each from Queensberry Promotions and Matchroom Boxing would square off to determine whether it would be Frank Warren or Eddie Hearn who would be walking away with bragging rights.

The answer would overwhelmingly be in favour of the former promoter, as every single one of Warren’s fighters took home the victory in their respective contests.

It is a night that still haunts Hearn and the Matchroom team, and talks regarding getting their revenge over Queensberry have taken place. However, they are of a very official nature this time.

Hearn revealed recently that he has negotiated with his rival company to stage a second event of a similar premise. Only, it will be a 7v7 this time, not a 5v5.

Hearn rattled off a few fights we could expect to see on the show, including a rematch between Callum Smith and Joshua Buatsi and George Liddard vs. Denzel Bentley.

Now he has revealed discussions regarding a separate fight, and it involves a British fighter who was recently world champion.

In a video uploaded to the ProBox TV YouTube channel, Hearn was asked about updates on Israil Madrimov and Murodjon Akhmadaliev. He replied, “Obviously, ‘MJ’ [Akhmadaliev] just won the other night. ‘MJ’ was one of the fights that I talked about Queensberry with, fightin’ Nick Ball.”

Until recently, Ball was the WBA featherweight champion, with the Liverpudlian considered one of Britain’s most exciting fighters.

Akhmadaliev, meanwhile, is the former unified super-bantamweight champion. Losing to Naoya Inoue in September, he has since rebounded with a stoppage of Hegly Mosqueda.

Both Ball and Akhmadaliev possess styles that could only combine brilliantly, and it would be a great addition to any card it would land on.
