Hearn’s list of demands receives a reply.
Of the many people in boxing who hope that the all-British heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua does not take place in the United States, perhaps the most firm in this stance is Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn.
The Matchroom Boxing head has made it very clear that he wants the long-awaited fight to take place in the United Kingdom, where both men hail from.
But at the moment, the matchup appears likely to be made for Madison Square Garden. And last month, Hearn sent a list of demands to Sela that he wants to be met if that is to be the case.
Amongst the list was for there to be an undercard that included a bantamweight unification between Jesse Rodríguez and Christian Medina, a heavyweight title fight between Jarrell Miller and Murat Gassiev, and a WBA (Regular) championship fight between Jack Catterall and Keyshawn Davis.
Hearn has now confirmed that he has received a reply to these conditions.
“We will need to make a decision this week. They’ve replied. They have our terms. It’s up to them”, Hearn told BoxingScene earlier today. “I mean, we don’t want to do the fight in the U.S., but if they really want it in the U.S., these are our terms.
“There’s nothing unreasonable in there, to be honest with you. There’s not one of those terms that was mentioned in the leaked email that is in the addendum. They’re all stuff related to the fight. If they want it there [in America], they’ll sign it. If not, we’ll be very happy, and we’ll do it in the U.K.
“We’re speaking multiple times a day, but we’re running out of time. I mean, if you want to do the fight on November 20 [the purported date of the fight], and they’re talking of a press conference next week–it’s Tuesday, do you know what I mean? But the ball’s in their court.”
When asked if he was confident that the fight will get made, Hearn replied, “I have no idea. I mean, I think so. But our dream and our hope is they just turn around and go, ‘This is too messy. We’ll just do it in Wembley’, but they’re adament that they want the fight in America.”
