Eddie Hearn denies reports that Diego Pacheco is a free agent

Matchroom boss denies Pacheco is a free agent, focusing on title fight for him next.

Diego Pacheco’s last fight was against Kevin Lele Sadjo, an undefeated French-Cameroonian with 23 knockouts in 26 wins.

Early on in that fight, Pacheco used his 6’4″ frame and 79-inch reach to catch Sadjo with shots from the outside. But as the fight wore on, Sadjo continued to trudge forwards and swing away at Pacheco. It was scrappy and very untidy, but the grit of the short slugger was beginning to prove troublesome for Pacheco.

It was then in the 8th round that Sadjo landed a crunching left hook that deposited Pacheco directly onto the canvas. From then on, it became not a question of whether Pacheco would look good in victory, but whether he would win at all.

He did, of course, and even visibly hurt Sadjo in the last round, but it was the third performance in a row where Pacheco did not perform as fans expected. This time, he was even knocked down, and now people were asking questions as to what his true quality really was.

Rumours emerged over the past few days that Pacheco had split with Matchroom Boxing and promoter Eddie Hearn, something which Hearn himself dismissed as untrue in a recent interview with “The Stomping Ground” by saying, “No, I think you read that wrong. Well, whoever reported that is wrong. Diego Pacheco is under contract with us ’til August-September. Something like that. So, he’s got at least one fight left [with Matchroom]. We’re in talks to re-sign him. But most importantly, [we’re] focused on the fight with Hamzah Sheeraz.”

A fight between Diego Pacheco (25-0, 18 KOs) and Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) would pit two power-punching super-middleweights over 6 feet tall against each other for the vacant WBO title. Boxing fans can’t miss out on such a matchup, and Eddie Hearn stated, “I think it’s a great fight. I think it’s a dangerous fight for both, but it’s two very talented 168-pounders.”
