Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodgriguez returns June 13 in an attempt to become a three weight world champion.
It was unclear at one point whether Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (23-0, 16ko’s) would stay with Matchroom amid an offer from Dana White and Zuffa.
The pound for pound star has signed a multi fight deal with the global promotion now, with his next fight announced.
Bam will take on Antonio Vargas (19-1-1, 10ko’s) in an attempt to become a three weight world champion.
Speaking on their new multi-fight deal Hearn stated:
“TKO made him an offer, his contract had expired with us”.
“We had first last matching rights, Robert Garcia did his job which was to go to the market really”.
“TKO made him an offer which was a good offer, he came back to us and kept us up to speed the whole time”.
“He said we want to stay with you guys but we’ve had this offer and I’m doing my job, are you happy to match it, and we said yes”.
“It’s a multi fight deal”.
“To take this fight at bantamweight, and then move back to 115 for undisputed”.
“There has been some early preliminary conversations with his excellency about Inoue against Bam, it could be in the next two or three fights”.
Naoya Inoue (32-0, 27ko’s) himself has a major challenge coming up by the name of Junto Nakatani (32-0, 24ko’s).
The two faces of Japanese boxing are set to face for Inoue’s undisputed super bantamweight titles on May 2nd in Tokyo.
If all is to according to plan with both parties we could be looking at one of the biggest fights in the sport.
Not only are these two world class fighters, they carry power that very few do at the lower weights.
Whether it’s in Japan, America or on neutral territory, this clash could determine pound for pound number one status.
