Eddie Hearn casts verdict on Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn

The Matchroom Sport Chairman has made it clear who he’s backing.

Conor Benn is gearing up to challenge Ryan Garcia for his WBC welterweight title on September 12.

The 29-year-old’s first shot at championship glory has been a long time coming after 26 professional bouts.

Benn has suffered just one defeat in his career, coming against long-time rival Chris Eubank Jr in 2025.

However, he gained revenge later that year with a dominant points victory over Eubank Jr.

The boxing world remains split over whether Benn can secure victory in his maiden world title challenge.

However, one man has already made his prediction clear: Benn’s former promoter Eddie Hearn.

During a conversation with KO Artist Sports, Hearn said: “It’s an exciting fight for boxing. I don’t like Conor at 147lbs, I don’t believe he should be fighting down there.

“He had those two fights with Eubank at 160lbs. I’m not saying he’s a middleweight; he fought Regis Prograis at 150lbs. He looked terrible in that fight. 147lbs is brutal for him now.

“He trains so hard, but I don’t think he has power down there. I don’t think he’ll have the chin down there, and Ryan’s a world-class fighter.

“Sometimes he has his off nights, but he’s very sharp and is a big puncher. But it’ll be fun because Conor’s got big balls. He’ll have a right go.”

Benn spent most of his early career fighting at the welterweight limit (147lbs) but moved up to challenge long-term rival Eubank Jr last year.

Now older, the demands of making the lower weight could prove even more challenging and may play a crucial role in the contest.
