Daniel Dubois reveals why he returned to Don Charles

Daniel Dubois has explained why he has decided to reunite with trainer Don Charles, just months after parting ways.

Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21ko’s) has revealed the reasons behind reuniting with former trainer Don Charles.

Team Dubois announced that they were parting ways with the former British boxing trainer of the year after their brutal knockout defeat to all time great Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 16ko’s) at Wembley Stadium last July.

Before this, Dubois and Charles went on a remarkable run of consecutive victories against Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua that led him to IBF heavyweight glory.

It seemed that the Greenwich born heavyweight had teamed up with trainer Tony Sims at the Matchroom gym in Essex.

The pair were readying themselves for a return to the ring, however team Dubois published a statement announcing that Dubois and Don Charles have reunited.

Dubois spoke to TalkSPORT boxing and was questioned on his reasoning behind the remarkable u turn.

Dubois stated: “Don’s been great for me, we won a world title together”.

“We sat down and had a family meeting and thought, because I’ve had the most success with Don we decided to do that u turn, we’ve had the best nights with him”.

“I was thinking about how I can improve myself, and that was my decision”.

“I’m willing to give everything I’ve got, everything left in my career, and become two time heavyweight champion of the world”

“He knows me as a fighter and as a person so it makes sense to go back”.

“We’ve had a break but it feels right to go back”.

Jim White of talkSPORT then questioned Dubois on why they parted ways originally, Dubois explained that “everyone needed to go away and think about things, it was a quick rash decision”.

“I’m glad were back together, he’s the right guy right heavyweight trainer for me”.

“I’ve just scratched the surface, I will climb to the top again and get my belt back”.

“Don is right for me, me and Tony didn’t gel”.

“He’ll help me get back to the glory days, hopefully soon, maybe in April, camp will start soon”.

Dubois is rumoured to be facing the heavy handed Zhilei Zhang (27-3-1, 22ko’s), with talks ongoing.
