Driver in tragic Anthony Joshua car crash charged by court

The driver of Anthony Joshua, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele appears in court after the tragic events in Nigeria.

The driver of the car that two of Anthony Joshua’s closest friends and team members passed away in has appeared in court in Nigeria.

On the 29th December, Latif Ayodele and Sima Ghani tragically lost their lives as their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry in Nigeria.

Anthony Joshua was treated in a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

A family member told the BBC that “he was on his way to visit relatives for New Year celebrations in the town at the time of the crash”.

This tragic accident occurred just a number of days after Anthony Joshua returned to the ring for the first time in 14 months to knock out Jake Paul in a mega event that was watched by over 33 million people on Netflix.

The mega event sent AJ into mega stardom worldwide as one of the faces of boxing once again, with the American market helping him gain over 3 million Instagram followers in the aftermath of the event.

This set up a massive 2026 for the Watford born superstar, with verbal agreements in place for Joshua and Tyson Fury to settle a rivalry that has lasted a decade.

However, the events in Nigeria have highlighted that there are more important things in life than boxing and it is imperative that Joshua has the time to recover physically and emotionally from the events on the 29th December.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash and who appeared in court is named as Adeniyi Kayode.

In providing the details of the appearance, the BBC have stated that “Kayode’s case has been adjourned until February 25.

“Kayode has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s license”.

Now that a charge has been levied on the driver, the next step will be whether Adeniyi Kayode guilty or not guilty.

Observers from the world of boxing and beyond will be following the case to see how it develops over the coming days and weeks.

In the meantime, the boxing world will continue to share their thoughts and prayers to Anthony Joshua, the families of the deceased and everyone affected by this tragic accident.
