Doubts cast over Gervonta Davis’ next fight after WBA order

Conflicting reports have emerged on the potential clash.

Gervonta Davis has not fought since his bout with Lamont Roach ended in a controversial draw last year.

In the meantime, Davis became champion in recess after legal issues following an arrest on battery and attempted kidnapping charges.

To retain his WBA lightweight title, the governing body has since ordered him to face rising star, Floyd Schofield.

The rivals were given a 30-day deadline to successfully agree a deal, although Schofield’s father has issued a worrying update.

Floyd Sr revealed: “We can’t do anything until the WBA says.

“[We’re] supposed to be in negotiations for another 20 days with Tank’s people, but according to what the lawyers say, they can’t be in negotiations right now.

“So, [we’re] in limbo for 20 more days while they get that mandate up. Tank’s people got to make a fight with us within 20 days.”

For Gervonta Davis to keep his title, he must make a defence.

Although the lack of talks with Schofield is looking increasingly less likely to occur.

The situation has been further complicated after a new arrest warrant was reportedly issued for Davis, relating to an alleged breach of his probation conditions.

Should Davis fail to agree to terms or proceed with a defence, Schofield could find himself elevated within the division.
