Dillian Whyte calls out old rival to face him again

Dillian Whyte calls out old foe for another fight.

At one stage, Dillian Whyte was one of the best heavyweight contenders in the world. While not amongst the very elite of the division, there was a time he’d have been a handful for anybody.

A brawler with one of the most deadly left hooks in recent years, from his defeat to Anthony Joshua to his defeat to Alexander Povetkin, Whyte put together a run that gave him one of the strongest résumés in his weight class.

Winning the WBC interim title, Whyte faced some of the best names of this era. And while he didn’t win all the time, he always made a fight out of it.

One man he will forever be tied to is Derek Chisora, who fought so similarly to Whyte that an encounter between the two was always going to be a violent affair.

That proved to be the case, as they would have two fights that delivered nothing but action. While Whyte would win a debated decision in the first fight, he would knock Chisora out cold in the rematch.

They have both had different runs since then. Chisora put several wins together that ended after a recent defeat to Deontay Wilder, and Whyte has gone 6-3, most recently being stopped in a round by Moses Itauma.

Now, in an interview with Sky Sports Boxing, Whyte has had his say on a potential trilogy with Chisora.

“I’d love to fight Derek Chisora again. Not a lot of boxers get to have trilogies in their career”, Whyte stated. “I’d love to fight him again. I think a trilogy with him would be great because we’re both at a stage of our career where there won’t be a lot of runnin’ around, a lot of movin’ around. We’re gonna stand and trade.

“He don’t like me. I don’t like him. He don’t wanna lose to me. I don’t wanna lose to him. I’ve already slept him once. I give him one of the best sleeps he’s had in his whole life. So, it’d be good to get it on.”

While a trilogy between the two was expected to happen at the end of last year, talks collapsed. However, there is no doubt that at least one half of the pair would like negotiations to recommence.
