Devin Haney vows to become four weight world champion

Devin Haney has expressed his interest in moving up to light middleweight to challenge the youngest unified world champion in boxing.

Devin Haney (33-0, 15ko’s) eyes a move in weight as he sets to further cement his legacy in the sport at just age 27.

Devin ‘The Dream’ Haney has accomplished so much in the sport in his career so far.

The current WBO world welterweight champion is a three weight world champion.

After three defences of his lightweight WBC title, Haney captured the undisputed lightweight championship.

Haney defeated George Kambosos Jr twice in Kambosos’s home country of Australia before defeating Vasily Lomachenko via unanimous decision in Las Vegas.

Since then Haney has defeated Regis Prograis at super lightweight and then recently defeated Brian Norman Jr to become a champion in a third weight class.

Haney’s not ready to stop there, and has called out the youngest unified world champion in the sport.

Xander Zayas defeated Abass Barou at just aged 23 to become the unified WBO and WBA light middleweight champion of the world.

The Puerto Rican has since called for a further unification with newly crowned IBF champion Josh Kelly.

But with the dream calling his name out, this could be a major fight in the American boxing schedule.

Father of Devin, Bill Haney spoke to ThaBoxingVoice: “We have a relationship with Top Rank and we know that [Zayas fight] can be an option”.

“Being a four-time champ, has a lust, an appeal, a legacy component in there. Xander having a country behind him in Puerto Rico, it makes for an exciting story”.

“That man Xander is food. He is food.”

Whether Haney remains at 147lbs or moves up is yet to be seen, but what is for sure is that there are a plethora of lucrative and legacy defining matchups for the man from San Fransisco.
