WBO champion Devin Haney is in talks for a welterweight unification bout next, with the date, location and broadcaster all revealed.
Devin Haney (33-0, 15ko’s) has a multitude of options for his next fight.
WBO welterweight champion of the world, Haney has intentions of ruling another division.
San Francisco born, ‘the dream’ is already a former undisputed champion, and three weight world champion.
Last time out, Haney dropped Brian Norman Jr (28-1, 22ko’s) on his way to a unanimous decision victory to claim his first piece of 147lbs gold.
Former foe Ryan Garcia recently captured the WBC welterweight crown, and fans are calling for a unification rematch between the two.
Their last fight was full of controversy.
After a chaotic build-up, Garcia missed weight by three pounds, but seemed to put in a career best performance, dropping Haney three times on his way to victory.
It was soon revealed that Garcia tested positive for Ostarine in his VADA test.
Subsequently, the fight was deemed a no contest.
With Garcia serving his ban and returning to the pinnacle of the sport, many think the revisit is the natural path for both.
However, WBA welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero (17-2, 13ko’s) has thrown his name into the mix.
Rolly engaged in a back and forth with Haney on X last night.
Romero claims that his team and promotion ‘PBC have sent Devin Haney an official offer for a welterweight unification bout for May 30th at the Barclays Center in New York, live on Prime Video.
Vegas born, Romero had the biggest victory of his career to date last time out.
His victory over Ryan Garcia as a big underdog on the Ring Magazine’s Times Square card has catapulted the 30 year old into the upper echelons of American boxing.
Y’all just got the call, May 30th New York City at the Barclays on Amazon Prime. Balls in your court Ducky 🦆 https://t.co/jxZUUcB8mG
