Despite the criticism that Devin Haney (33-0, 15ko’s) gets for his boxing style, the man from California is not afraid to face anyone.
At just 27, Haney has already cemented himself as one of the best in a generation.
A three weight world champion and undisputed king at 135lbs, there is only one wrong for Haney to right.
In April of 2024, ‘the dream’ faced Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s) in what was one of the biggest fights of the year.
A chaotic build up and an even chaotic aftermath ensued.
In the weeks building up to the fight, many experts were worried for the mental health of Ryan Garcia, who seemed to be acting erratic and uncharacteristic of his former self.
By the time weigh-in day came around, Garcia weighed in 3lbs over the 140lbs limit.
Haney was financially compensated for this, and the fight still went ahead.
A 12 round fight culminated in Garcia putting Haney on the canvas three times, and winning a majority decision.
The chaos did not stop there.
In the aftermath, ‘King Ry’ failed a VADA test, testing positive for the banned substance Ostarine.
Immediately, the fight was deemed a no-contest, and Garcia served a 12 month suspension.
As we sit here in 2026, both fighters are now world champions up at welterweight.
Every fight fan wants the rematch to take place, and Haney has revealed some positive news on this topic.
The Devin Haney Promotions Instagram account posted a story today with a photo of the two fighters facing off, with a date of September 5th and the Allegiant Stadium tagged.
Whilst this is not an official announcement, a showdown between the two at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas would be massive news for the welterweight division.
The Allegiant Stadium famously was home to Canelo vs Crawford in 2025.
