Derek Chisora vs Deontay Wilder fight back on despite Frank Warren claims

Derek Chisora has once again fuelled speculation around a rumoured showdown with Deontay Wilder.

Derek Chisora has once again fuelled speculation around a rumoured showdown with Deontay Wilder. However, the timing of the video appears to directly contradict comments made by Frank Warren just a day earlier in an interview with YouTube channel IFL TV.

Boxing King Media exclusively reported that KSI and ‘Misfits Pro’ are set to stage the fight, in a sign that Derek Chisora has split from promoter Frank Warren.

However, Frank Warren, who is the founder of Queensbury Promotions, has hit back in an attempt to counter that narrative.

When asked about reports linking Chisora to a fight with Wilder, Warren was emphatic in terms of shutting down talk of the bout.

“We deal with facts, and the facts are that he has a contract with us,” Warren stated.

Pressed further on whether Queensberry Promotions would be involved in what would be Chisora’s 50th professional bout, Warren repeated his stance

“He [Derek Chisora] has a contract with us.”

Warren was also responding to claims regarding the expiration of Chisora’s Queensberry deal, which he firmly refuted.

As things stand, the exact contractual situation between Derek Chisora and Frank Warren remains unclear.

No press conference has been announced for the proposed clash between Chisora and Wilder, no official fight date has been confirmed, and no promotion has formally unveiled the bout.

Yet, Derek Chisora has posted a video on his Instagram showing the pair speaking via FaceTime.

In the clip, Wilder delivers a pointed message, telling Chisora: “I love you, but this is gonna be the last phone call. Next time it’s gonna be the press conference, and after that it’s the ring.”

Chisora responds by signalling his own belief that negotiations are complete.

“This is the last phone call from me too bro. I’m just calling to tell you good luck and may God bless both of us.”

The exchange strongly suggests that both fighters believe the deal is effectively done and that the next stages are formal promotion and fight night itself.

And the tone and finality of Chisora’s video call with Wilder suggests that, at least from the fighters’ perspective, the fight is moving forward.

The situation raises the possibility of a legal or contractual dispute brewing behind the scenes, depending on the terms Warren is referring to.

Frank Warren, however, has a long and well documented history of successfully navigating contractual battles with fighters and promoters throughout his career.

As a reminder, Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) has been widely linked with an April return for what is expected to be his 50th and potentially final professional fight, with Deontay Wilder strongly rumoured as the opponent.

Officially, nothing has been announced. Unofficially, Chisora’s own words and Wilder’s response make it increasingly difficult to ignore the signs that this fight is edging closer, even if the legal paperwork may not yet be fully resolved.
