Derek Chisora has announced that he is actively seeking a rematch with Deontay Wilder, dismissing retirement claims.
Leading into his 50th professional fight against Deontay Wilder, all the talk was that this would be the end of Derek Chisora.
A decision defeat reaffirmed these views, and many in the boxing world want nothing more than Del Boy to keep his health in tact.
50 fights over 19 years, Chisora has delivered some of the most memorable nights in recent British boxing history.
During the early days, Chisora wasn’t necessarily a fan favourite, but his honest style, and a fight anyone attitude captured the imagination of the British sporting public.
A resume consisting of Tyson Fury x3, Oleksandr Usyk, Dillian Whyte x2, Joseph Parker x2, Joe Joyce, Deontay Wilder, Vladimir Klitschko, and many many more.
Retirement in front of a packed out O2 Arena, a place that seemed like home for Chisora, seemed fitting, but the 42 year old still seems to have a desire to carry on.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Chisora has stated:
“Yeah I want the rematch [with Wilder]”.
“The wife has given me the green light so I’ll be doing the rematch”.
“He is keen cause he was upset with the result”.
“Yes he might’ve won, but he is upset with the result so we are going to run it back”.
“After the brutal nature of Wardley-Dubois last Saturday, the physical dangers of this sport are a hot topic”.
Wardley bravely absorbed serious punishment, with many believing the man from Ipswich will never be the same.
Should Chisora and Wilder be risking their health at the age of 40+ after already achieving so much, probably not.
But will people want to watch it, certainly.
Chisora-Wilder was on DAZN PPV and undoubtedly, it was a massive pay day for both.
