Chisora gives shock answer as to who he believes will defeat Usyk.
Given Oleksandr Usyk’s list of achievements throughout his career, it is an incredible feat that he remains officially undefeated. And given that he is certainly nearing retirement, it’s looking like a definite possibility that he may well remain that way when he walks away from the sport.
This is something that many have already forecasted with confidence, and it definitely isn’t a controversial take. In fact, many predict that if Usyk were to lose, it would be due to getting old overnight, sticking around for too long, or some combination thereof.
But whether he does retire undefeated or not, it is very much the consensus that the man to beat him will not be Rico Verhoeven, who he faces on Saturday in Egypt.
This is because Verhoeven is not a professional boxer by trade. He is a legend in the sport of kickboxing, but he has only had a single paid appearance in the art of pugilism. That appearance was a win that took place in 2014 over Janos Finfera, a foe who had stepped into the ring on six previous occasions and not won a single time.
However, while many are completely writing Verhoeven off, someone who isn’t is heavyweight contender Derek Chisora, who revealed his surprising opinion regarding the bout earlier today.
“I think Usyk loses this fight in Egypt”, Chisora stated on talkSPORT Boxing.
Upon being told by Simon Jordan that he was just saying it to get a reaction, Chisora insisted he wasn’t, replying, “I’m telling you.”
Later on in the interview, Chisora doubled down on this statement by saying, “Listen, all I’m saying is–yeah?–the kickboxer’s gonna win it, and then we’re gonna see a rematch. And by the time he [Agit Kabayel] gets his shot to the title, he’d be 45.”
Certainly a very bold prediction from a man who gave Usyk one of the toughest fights of his career, but could it possibly happen?
Anything can happen in heavyweight boxing.
