‘War’ has weighed in with another bold statement after the latest upheaval in the boxing world.
Conor Benn made headlines last month when he announced that he would be parting ways with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, opting instead to join Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.
The decision sent shockwaves through the boxing community.
Not only because of the timing but also because of the strong bond that had existed between Benn and Hearn.
Over the years, the two had cultivated a close professional and personal relationship, making the split all the more surprising.
Industry insiders have since speculated about the factors that led to Zuffa’s deal with Benn.
Some point to strategic career opportunities, while others highlight the appeal of new promotional partnerships.
With White increasingly asserting his influence over the sport through Zuffa, acquiring a rising talent like Benn fits perfectly into his vision.
Still, questions linger about Benn’s motives, and not everyone is convinced by the reasoning behind the switch.
Hearn seemed just as confused as the rest of us, insisting he had no idea Benn was jumping ship.
In an interview with Playbook Boxing, Derek Chisora seems to think that might not be the case.
He stated: “Eddie Hearn knew that Conor Benn was going to Zuffa Boxing.
“It’s all a game plan, you don’t understand…
“It’s all a game plan. Listen, Eddie Hearn has promoted the last two fights for Ring Magazine, and then suddenly they don’t tell him they’re going to sign Conor Benn?
“It’s all a game plan. It’s good business for Conor.”
Granted, his statement doesn’t seem to be supported by any concrete evidence.
And there’s little to suggest that it reflects the full truth.
Regardless, it quickly ignited a heated debate among fans, who flooded the comment section of the clip with their reactions to Chisora’s claims.
