Deontay Wilder shares emotional fond memories of his time training with Wladimir Klitschko back in 2012 in a recent DAZN interview.
Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43ko’s) and Wladimir Klitschko (64-5, 53ko’s) are undoubtedly two of the heavyweight divisions biggest success stories in the modern era.
Never opponents, but there is plenty of common ground that the two share.
Most notably, they both had dominant reigns as heavyweight championship of the world.
For the Ukrainian, Klitschko alongside his brother Vitali dominated the heavyweight landscape for a decade.
His reign was stopped by a certain Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24ko’s) in 2015.
Similarly, after a run of ten successive title defences, Wilder was brutally defeated by Fury twice in a historic trilogy.
Many believe that these Fury fights have took their toll on the ‘Bronze Bomber’.
However, in what will be his 50th fight, Wilder will face Derek Chisora (36-13, 23ko’s) on the 4th April at London’s O2 Arena.
In a trip down memory lane video for DAZN, Wilder recollects his times with Wladimir Klitschko in training camps.
Talking about a photo back in 2012, Wilder stated:
“With one of the greats, at this moment in time I was in camp with Klitschko for a very long time”.
“It was my birthday as well, he presented me with a cake, it was pretty cool”.
“Going to his camp developed me even further, with my confidence and everything”.
“I realised why he was a true champion”.
Wilder’s upcoming fight with ‘Del Boy’ is being billed as the end of the road for both fighters.
Whether that will be the case for the winner is yet to be seen, with lucrative heavyweight matchups out there.
