Deontay Wilder offered two weight world championship opportunity

Deontay Wilder now has fresh opportunities on the table after his victory over Derek Chisora, and a move in weight has now been offered.

Deontay Wilder (45-4-1, 42ko’s) was brushed to the side of the heavyweight division after consecutive defeats to Joseph Parker (36-4, 24ko’s) and Zhilei Zhang (27-3-1, 22ko’s), but the Bronze Bomber is back.

Maybe not back in comparison to the Wilder that was widely considered as the most ferocious puncher in history, but there’s plenty left on the table for the man from Alabama.

It was a split decision victory over Derek Chisora (36-14, 24ko’s) on Saturday that has unlocked a plethora of doors.

As for Chisora, retirement is beckoning.

The potential mega fight with Anthony Joshua (29-4, 27ko’s) has once again resurfaced, as AJ was ringside in Greenwich.

Previously reported by Boxing King Media, Murat Gassiev’s promoter has publicly declared their interest in a clash with Wilder for the Russian’s WBA ‘Regular’ championship.

Now, a fresh opportunity at a new weight class has presented itself for the 40 year old.

Speaking to World Boxing News, WBC bridgerweight world champion Kevin Lerena has stated:

“I would one hundred percent give Deontay Wilder a shot at the title”.

“He’s always dangerous as he showed in the fight with Derek Chisora. Wilder is one of the hardest punchers of our era”.

“However, I back down from no man. I respect all and fear no one”.

Bridgerweight is arguably the forgotten division of the sport, with not all major governing bodies recognising it.

It has been a proposition Wilder has disregarded on previous occasions, but at 40, is it his last chance of claiming world title honours

Wilder has always scaled in and around the 224lbs limit, and the WBC have confirmed they will approve this move should the fighters reach an agreement.

So will it be Joshua, Gassiev, Lerena, or someone completely different for the Bronze Bomber.
