Deontay Wilder blames white supremacy for refereeing in first Tyson Fury fight

American accuses referee of racial bias ahead of Derek Chisora fight.

Deontay Wilder has never quite recovered from his encounters with Tyson Fury.

There are boxing fans who believe this very literally to be the case, as ‘The Bronze Bomber’ hasn’t quite been himself since he shared the ring with Fury.

The two faced each other three separate times from 2018 to 2021, and each fight delivered something incredible.

In the first fight, Fury was coming off a number of personal issues and took the Wilder bout when many believed he was nowhere near ready. But as the underdog, Fury put on a terrific boxing display despite getting dropped twice.

It’s the second of these two knockdowns that everyone remembers, because in the last round, Fury was clocked with a right-left combination that stretched him flat. He looked for all the world like he was completely unconscious.

But remarkably, impossibly, Fury rose from the deck and beat the referee’s count, seeing out the round and settling for a draw that the vast majority of viewers had as a Fury win.

In their rematch over a year later, Fury was again the underdog and was again venturing into hostile territory. But this time, ‘The Gypsy King’ trampled Wilder, diced him up, ran him over. It is one of the most one-sided performances in championship history.

In the aftermath, Wilder struggled with coming to terms with the loss, offering a litany of excuses that ranged from Fury tampering with his gloves to his own ringwalk outfit being too heavy and taking his legs away.

Wilder petitioned for a third fight, and he got it.

In that fight, both Fury and Wilder would score two official knockdowns each before Fury beat Wilder down and finished him off in the 11th, sending him sprawling to the canvas unconscious.

What seemingly hurts Wilder almost as much as thinking he was cheated is knowing that he wasn’t, as he had nothing to say following the third fight apart from that he simply was the inferior fighter.

Over four years on from their last showdown, both Fury and Wilder have fights scheduled for April of 2026 in England.

Fury’s opponent will be Russian behemoth Arslanbek Makhmudov, whereas Wilder’s opponent is Derek Chisora.

Chisora is no stranger to fighting Fury himself. Indeed, he, too, had a trilogy with the Manchester man. And just like Wilder, he came up winless each time.

In the most recent episode of the “Mr. Verzace Podcast”, Wilder and Chisora exchanged words before their upcoming fight. And at one point, Rick Reeno brought up that both of them have fought Fury three times, to which Chisora said, “F*** that. We’re not talkin’ about that motherf***er, I swear to God. He whooped my ass three times, whooped his [Wilder’s] ass three times. We’re not talkin’ about him. F*** him.”

Wilder was quick to respond with, “He ain’t whoop me twice at all.”

Upon Chisora saying that Fury needed to be given credit and that he was there for two of the fights between Fury and Wilder, Wilder proceeded to say, “I know that, but you’re only seein’ what you saw. He didn’t win nothin’. They gave it to him. I can’t think about the third one, but the two of ’em, he definitely cheated. I got proof and evidence of that. When I do my documentary and my movie about it, it’s goin’ to be presented. I’mma bring the peoples and the artifacts and everything I know. Why you think he can’t come back to America now? The man cheated. He’s the biggest cheater in boxin’ history if you look him up. You will see it. And if I’m lyin’, then please tell him to sue me for defamation of character so I can have the proof. I want that. I can’t wait on it, because bein’ a black man with dark skin, it’s harder to believe me than to believe a white man. And then that first fight, the referee, that’s white supremacy, what he did.”

This diatribe of Wilder’s displays his inability to accept defeat and a very clear disregarding of logic in many people’s eyes. The claims are slanderous, to say the least, and it will be interesting to see if Tyson Fury responds.
