Undercard officially announced for Benavidez-Ramírez.
On Cinco de Mayo weekend, the boxing world will be treated to an almighty scrap when two-division champion David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) takes on former super-middleweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramírez (48-1, 30 KOs) for the WBA and WBO cruiserweight world titles.
The 200-pound cracker heads a scorching night of action that will be taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, on the 2nd of May.
In the past few days, rumours have been circulating on potential fights that would be appearing on the card, but we now have official confirmation of three fights on the bill.
The co-main event sees Armando Resendiz (16-2, 11 KOs) make the first defence of his WBA super-middleweight title against Jaime Munguía (45-2, 35 KOs).
This 168-pound clash was quickly put together after confirmation that Jermall Charlo (who was originally going to fight Resendiz) pulled out immediately after the fight had been announced yesterday.
Resendiz was upgraded to WBA champion after winning the interim strap against Caleb Plant in The Ring‘s “Upset of the Year” for 2025. The Mexican will be making his first ring appearance since then.
Munguía, meanwhile, is coming off of a win over France’s unbeaten Bruno Surace, a fight Munguía failed a drug test for. However, Munguía was officially cleared of any intentional drug use, though the win still remains on his record.
This win arrived after a shocking one-punch knockout loss to Surace in what The Ring voted as 2024’s “Upset of the Year”. So, this clash sees two of the men who took part in the biggest upsets of the last two years squaring off against each other, though being on opposite sides of those results.
The rest of the announced card sees Oscar Duarte (30-2-1, 23 KOs) take on Angel Fierro (23-4-2, 18 KOs), while Isaac Lucero (18-0, 14 KOs) will be throwing down with Alan Sandoval (30-0-1, 19 KOs).
