David Benavidez got his job done, now it’s up to Dmitry Bivol to take care of matters as talks continue for an undisputed light heavyweight matchup.
David Benavidez has done his job this month, impressively stopping Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez last weekend in Las Vegas.
Nicknamed as ‘The Monster’, Benavidez is now a three weight world champion.
He now holds the unified WBA and WBO unified cruiserweight titles, as well as still being WBC light-heavyweight world champion.
Cruiserweight is a division lacking commercial stars, so a move back to light-heavyweight after is a possibility.
Light-heavyweight king Dmitry Bivol fights for the first time in over a year at the end of May.
It’s a first fight in Russia for over four years for Bivol, who defends his unified titles against mandatory challenger Michael Eifert (13-1, 5ko’s).
The last twelve months have been frustrating for Bivol, who undertook major surgery.
Should the Russian make easy work of his mandatory, there are two fights that the boxing world want to see.
A trilogy with Artur Beterbiev (21-1, 20ko’s) makes the most sense, with the score being one a piece.
Not only were these two fights razor tight on the scorecards, both fighters fought at an elite level, something we rarely see in a boxing ring.
If its not to be Beterbiev, it has to Benavidez.
Eddie Hearn has confirmed to Fight Hub TV that Dmitry Bivol vs David Benavidez is a fight that he is “discussing with Luis De Cubas”.
Now, via The Porter Way Podcast, Benavidez stated: “We’re already in talks”.
Whether this lands in the Middle East or in North America, it has all the potential for a fight of the year contender.
The pressure and come forward nature of Benavidez vs the slick combination punching of Bivol for the undisputed light-heavyweight world titles.
With PBC rumoured to be joining DAZN, this could be a major co-promotion for the broadcaster.
