Dave Allen’s next opponent confirmed

British heavyweight to fight on Wood-Warrington 2 undercard.

Whether you call him “The White Rhino”, “The Doncaster De La Hoya”, or any other name, Dave Allen is universally known as one of the most personable, down-to-Earth characters in boxing today.

The beloved Yorkshireman has always been a fan-favourite fighter, but his stock has only risen in the last 14 months.

This started with his first clash with Johnny Fisher, which appeared on the undercard of the blockbuster rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

Going in, Fisher was undefeated in 12 fights, with only one having gone the distance. He was expected by many to prove his worth against Allen, to overcome the test against the sturdy veteran.

Instead, it was Allen who would display his true ability when at his best. After sending Fisher to the canvas in the 5th round, Allen would continue to give Fisher major issues in a fight that suddenly seemed far too much for the younger man.

The resulting decision in favour of Fisher left a sour taste in many mouths, with the majority believing that Allen had done enough to get the victory. Allen would ultimately leave no doubt in the rematch, as he would leave Fisher facedown in the 5th frame for arguably the best win of his career.

Since then, Allen has lost a decision to Arslanbek Makhmudov, but will be returning on the undercard of the second showdown between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington.

Allen’s opponent was not officially known until yesterday, less than a week out from fight night. However, it is now confirmed that he will be facing Karim Berredjem.

Berredjem (12-10, 3 KOs) is a 39-year-old Frenchman who has only fought outside of his native France on two previous occasions. There isn’t much of true substance on his record, but he did beat Erik Nazaryan last time out, who will be familiar to British fight fans for his bouts against the likes of Roman Fury and Aloys Junior.

Berredjem certainly represents a soft touch for Dave Allen, but a performance in which Allen looks good and faces little adversity will be essential in building back his confidence and making sure he can move on to bigger things.
