Popular British heavyweight teases big opponent for next fight.
Popular Doncaster heavyweight Dave Allen may be on the cusp of announcing some very big news.
The Yorkshire fan-favourite is coming off a win on the Leigh Wood vs. Josh Warrington 2 undercard, having dispatched Karim Berredjem in 57 seconds.
The win was one of the fastest of Allen’s career and went a way towards restoring some confidence following his decision loss to Arslanbek Makhmudov in October.
Allen (25-8-2, 20 KOs) has always had a dedicated following of fans, but that following grew as a result of his two-fight saga with Johnny Fisher.
The first of these fights resulted in a very controversial decision loss for Allen, while the second saw Allen win by means of a devastating knockout that left Fisher facedown on the canvas.
It’s not often that a fighter has a fanbase that supports them whether they win or lose, but that’s exactly what Allen has. He has not been undefeated since his 2016 loss to Dillian Whyte, but much like Henry Cooper, Frank Bruno, and the modern-day Derek Chisora, Dave Allen has become the man people love to see succeed even when he doesn’t a lot of the time.
Now Allen has revealed on his personal Instagram that he has a big fight lined up for his next ring appearance. In the story, Allen wrote, “Got possible biggest fight of my life happening next and not allowed to mention anything ’til it gets done.”
Who this opponent is isn’t 100% known, but Allen recently stated that discussions with feared puncher Zhilei Zhang have taken place.
That would certainly be an interesting fight, considering Allen has never been down and Zhang has knocked down everyone he’s faced. However, given the wording of Allen’s statement, it might be that Zhang is not his next opponent.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
