Boxing legends to meet again later this year.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is considered by many to be the greatest boxer of the 21st century, and it is hard to argue otherwise.
The American captured titles in five separate divisions, set several all-time pay-per-view records, and exited the sport with a sparkling 50-0 record.
Mayweather has become the prime example of the type of fighter other fighters wish to be, with the lack of physical punishment taken over his career and undefeated record considered two major reasons at to why he’s regarded as highly as he is today.
Since his retirement from the professional side of the sport, Mayweather has taken part in a number of exhibitions, which have all varied in calibre of opposition and general spectacle.
But either way, they have all been far below the great American in terms of skill.
Turning 49 years old tomorrow, the pugilistic megastar has flirted with a return to the professional ring, and it now seems that he could be doing just that.
In 2015, Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao in what remains the most lucrative fight the sport of boxing has ever seen. While the fight itself didn’t live up to the hype for many, the visual of the two pound-for-pound goliaths sharing the same ring shall never cease to be an amazing sight.
It is now being reported that the pair are set to run it back in September, with a possible venue being the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
Both Mayweather and Pacquiao will be competing in exhibition bouts this spring, with Mayweather taking on Mike Tyson and Pacquiao facing off against Ruslan Provodnikov.
Both men are now in their late 40s, and it remains to be seen what a rematch between the two will look like at this stage.
